About · Beliefs · Goals

Beyond the Plus has a set of goals that we're following that anyone who joins us is helping us achieve.

General

Gathering

People from all walks of life are welcome to join Beyond the Plus, and we offer many resources to help get more here. We're fighting a battle against a society that needs change, and to fight you need an army. The more people that join this community, that know it exist, and that network with each other, the better.

Fighting

Society only changes if you make the changes to do so. There comes a time where you need to justify your existence to others, or try to change a stubborn person's mind on what they think is okay. We provide resources for helping fight the stigmas that plague us.

Online Resources

Beyond the Plus operates on an online-in-person self-supporting model. We provide this website, all of its resources, social media channels, and more in order to create a place that the new queer movement can support itself on.

In Person Interactions

But staying online can only go so far. Think of how much a single event like stonewall changed history, and compare that to how much progress slowed down when people had to retreat to online spaces and became "those" people. Our online resources exist partially to advertise our in-person presence, and vice versa. Beyond the Plus runs events that gather community members in the real world, providing them with much needed support and proof that they're not alone in this world.

Specific

Events

We believe that both in-person and virtual events are vital to creating a sense of community. Meeting others in real time is an invaluable way to improve mental health and meet new friends that share things in common with you. Events are also a good way to share pride and earn funding for our operations.

Resources

Resources such as links to forums, information about other organizations, and infographics are important to share. They're little tidbits of info that can have a big impact and are easy to show others.

Lobby

When others try to take your rights away, you have to fight for it. We think that encouraging people to speak out against unfair legislation, contacting local legislators, and protesting are all vital ways to protect our freedoms and exercise our freedom of speech.

Education

It can be hard to learn a lot of new things, especially when it's all shoved in your face and you don't know how to take it in. We educate on a variety of topics in an easy-to-digest fashion, because knowledge is power.

Outreach

Sometimes it can feel lonely when you don't know anyone like you. It's our goal to have places anyone can reach out to when they need advice, and to go out there and extend that hand of friendliness in places that we know people are feeling alone in.
